Individual Lessons

Individual lessons: How does it work?

Introducing new skills and concepts is best done, teacher to student in a private lesson. Each skill can be worked on separately with a focus on clarity and mastery.

During weekly lessons, the teacher and student interact at two pianos. The teacher demonstrates a movement, a sound or a rhythm on one piano and the student plays it back almost instantly on the other piano. Students can remember a lot when they play it back almost instantly.

With two pianos a lot of skill can be transferred in a short time. Students make the quickest progress by taking a weekly one hour private lesson, practicing every day and playing with other student pianists in a weekly Team Piano rehearsal.

Artistry

Artistry in piano lessons is about how the wrist moves when striking the keys. Artistry is necessary for developing self expression. Self expression is the key to finding the motivation to practice. The teacher demonstrates a motion in a phrase of music on one piano and the student instantly plays it back on another piano. We introduce these motions at the first lesson for all of our students.

What's the Secret to Becoming a Good Pianist?

The most important thing is developing an internal motivation for practicing. Having a good teacher and a decent instrument are important elements. Developing a love for the piano is more important and happens as a result of the artistry applied. A love for what you are doing feeds self expression. All of these ingredients lead students to achieve a consistent daily practice.
